VIDEO: EITC Awareness Day Capitol Hill Policy Briefing

If you missed our January 29 policy briefing featuring Senator Cory Booker, you can now view it here.

What’s Next for Tax Credits for Low-Wage Workers, a Capitol Hill forum co-hosted with the Corporation for Enterprise Development (CFED), brought together advocates and lawmakers to celebrate recent tax credit accomplishments and discuss what lies ahead in 2016.

Sen. Booker commended advocates for their persistence in urging Congress to make expansions of the Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and Child Tax Credit permanent, and discussed the potential for expanding the EITC for childless workers. Other speakers included Ellen Nissenbaum, Senior Vice President for Government Affairs at the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities, who outlined new prospects for the credits in 2016. Johns Hopkins Professor Kathryn Edin spoke on the importance of tax credits for low-wage workers and their families, and participated in a panel discussion with other researchers, advocates and tax professionals exploring current tax credit proposals such as the Rainy Day EITC.
