Revamped Website Helps Working Families Claim Tax Credits
This post was written by Roxy Caines of the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities and first appeared on their Off the Charts blog.
The Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) and the Child Tax Credit (CTC) lift millions of people out of poverty each year. Yet, many eligible workers miss out on the credits because they don’t know they qualify, don’t know how to claim the credits, or don’t know where to find free tax filing assistance.
They — and the people assisting them with filing their taxes — can more easily find that information now on our updated Tax Credit Outreach website.
Visitors to the site will find:
- The basics about the EITC and CTC, and about available tax filing assistance;
- An EITC estimator;
- Outreach materials to help inform potentially eligible workers about the credits; and
- Links to relevant IRS forms and tax filing information.
They can also sign up to receive a free copy of our EITC Outreach Kit, including color posters in English and Spanish and reproducible outreach materials. They can use the guide to learn how to develop an effective outreach campaign. The kit also provides basic facts about the credits and free tax filing assistance, and it explores the key elements of a successful campaign.
