EARNED INCOME TAX CREDIT (EITC)
Rate: 10% of the federal credit; will raise to 20% if state revenues increase to $150 million.
Eligibility Requirements: All Missouri taxpayers who qualify for the federal credit are automatically eligible.
Latest Legislative Action: In the 2021 legislative session, lawmakers passed a bill to enact a state EITC, also known as the Missouri Working Families Tax Credit.
- Lawmakers in the state House and Senate considered bills to create a state EITC worth 20% of the federal credit during the 2017 session.
- During the 2016 legislative session, lawmakers considered HB 2154, a bill that would establish a state EITC at 5% of the federal credit.
CHILD TAX CREDIT (CTC)
Missouri does not currently offer a state-level CTC.
Latest Legislative Action: In 2014, SB 513 was introduced with bipartisan support to create a child tax credit of $400 for individuals with adjusted gross income of up to $46,100 and married couples with up to $92,200. However, the measure was not signed into law.
CHILD AND DEPENDENT CARE TAX CREDIT (CDCTC)
Missouri does not currently offer a state-level CDCTC.
