Top story: A new study from the National Bureau of Economic Research finds that increasing the minimum wage and Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC) can help reduce the number of deaths by suicide. (TCWF)
- The Iowa State House of Representative passed legislation to raise the maximum income level for the state Child and Dependent Care Credit from $45,000 to less than $90,000. The bill now heads to the state Senate for consideration. (The Iowa Legislature)
- Maine State Representative Maureen Terry (D-Gorham) introduced legislation to drastically expand and modernize the state EITC by increasing the credit from 5 to 30 percent of the federal credit; increasing access to the credit for middle-class families, students, caregivers and workers without dependent children; and distributing the credit in regular installments throughout the year.
