News Round-Up: March 18, 2019
Here are some highlights from the past week’s news and upcoming events on family tax credit issues:
Top Story: U.S. Representatives Stephanie Murphy (D-FL) and Jason Smith (R-MO) introduced the Promoting Affordable Childcare for Everyone Act, which would make the federal Child and Dependent Care Credit refundable, increase the credit rate by 15 percent and adjust the credit for inflation. - Delaware State Representative Paul Baumbach (D-Newark) introduced legislation that would allow recipients of the state EITC to choose between a nonrefundable credit worth 20 percent of the federal credit or a refundable credit worth 4.5 percent of the federal credit. (WBOC 16)
- Misha Werschkul, executive director of the Washington State Budget & Policy Center, urged state lawmakers to pass House Bill 1527, which would fund the state’s EITC, called the Working Families Tax Credit, and expand access to immigrant workers, family caregivers, workers without dependent children and low-income college students. - The Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) reminded lawmakers that state-level EITCs and minimum wages work best when strengthened together. (CBPP)
