News Round Up: November 19, 2018
Here are some highlights from the past week’s news and upcoming events on family tax credit issues.
Top Story: A new report from the Center on Budget and Policy Priorities (CBPP) shows how state-level tax policies can help dismantle the harmful legacy of racial discrimination by creating more economic opportunities for households of color. The report recommends policy solutions such as enacting or expanding state-level Earned Income Tax Credits (EITCs), which “can help address the disparate racial impact of regressive taxes.” (CBPP)
- A new National Bureau of Economic Research (NBER) working paper analyzes the long-term impact of anti-poverty programs on disadvantaged communities and finds that the EITC helps to increase employment and reduce both poverty and public assistance. (NBER)
